When Jeff and Donna Haynes of Beacon were seeking a not-for-profit partner to help orchestrate local music programs, the Dutchess County Arts Council connected them with Mount Saint Mary College. A grant from the New York State Music Fund enabled MSMC to offer this drum session to seniors as well as an evening class open to all.

Joan McAdam, MSMC’s Coordinator of the Center for Community and Educational Services, hopes more people find the rhythm in learning that the seniors have embraced. “We’re thrilled about this program,” says McAdam. “It’s good to see people over 18 doing something fun and exciting.”
The 55+ students along with Haynes and guest artists, play in free concerts open to the public at the Mount, at Hudson Hall Auditorium on the MSMC Main Campus, Newburgh. The final concert of the 2007-08 series will end with the high-spirited genre klezmer, a tradition of secular Jewish music. Special guest guitarist C Lanzbom will join Jeff Haynes and his students at 7pm, Saturday, May 3 ( To keep time with Jeff Haynes, visit Jeff’s website at
